2007 AGS NATIONAL SHOW RULES

This show is recognized by the American Goat Society as its official 2007 National Show. AGS RULES SHALL GOVERN.

GENERAL RULES Unless other rules are specified, this show will be held under the rules of AGS, provided they do not conflict with those of the Rockingham County Fairgrounds.

ENTRY FEES: All entries must be on official entry forms. To be eligible for regular entry fees, entries must be postmarked on or before May 26, 2007, and must be accompanied by an entry fee of $10.00 per animal for the National Show events and $8.00 per animal for the Nigerian Dwarf Specialty Show. No entry fees are required for Team Fitting or Showmanship in the National Youth Show, but you must have a regular entry in the National Youth Show. No fees are required for Group Classes. Entries postmarked after May 26 and received by June 7 will be accepted, but must be accompanied by an entry fee of $12.00 per animal per for the National show events and $10.00 per animal for the Nigerian Dwarf Specialty show. No entries past this date, post entries, or telephone entries will be accepted. Make checks payable to the American Goat Society. Bounced checks will incur a $30 fee. All entry forms and fees should be sent to David Aguirre at the address below. Email entries should be sent to kidnacres@msn.com with follow-up payment to David Aguirre. No entries will be considered official until entry fees have been received.

SUBSTITUTIONS: Substitutions may be made within the show only (e.g. Bucks, Does). Exhibitors wishing to substitute animals may do so at check-in, but all subsititutions must be complete before 7:00 am on show day. Substitutions made before June 1 are free of charge. There will be a $10.00 charge for each substitution made after that date, either by e-mail, phone, letter, or on show day.

CHECK IN: The fairgrounds will open at 12 noon on Monday June 18 and will remain open until Sunday, June 24th at the end of the show. All entries for the National Show events must be in place and checked in by 6 pm on Friday, June 22, 2007. Youth participants and their animals must be in place and checked in by 6 pm on Wednesday, June 20, 2007. Please note: All animals entered in the National Youth Show must be registered either in the name of the youth or in a family registration where the youth is also named. The original registration certificate is required for animals over 6 months of age; applications stamped “received” by the AGS office are acceptable for animals under 6 months old. Proof of animal’s ownership is the name on the registration certificate or on the stamped duplicate. For Champion Challenge in the Nigerian Dwarf Specialty show, proof of Master Championship is required, either indicated on the registration certificate or on the show win cards.

PENS: The fee for pens will be $7.00 per pen. Please enter on the entry form the number of pens needed. First bedding is included with the pen fee, and additional bedding will be available on site for purchase. Shavings and straw are allowed as bedding in the show barn. We will try to have wheelbarrows available for pen cleaning. We will also try to have hay available for purchase at the show site subject to availablity; contact us for more information. We will have a list of available feed stores in your show packet upon check-in.

MILKOUT: There will be a mandatory pre-show milkout for the National Senior Doe Show, beginning at 2:00 pm on Saturday, June 23, 2007. Please do not over bag your does. Please dispose of milk only in designated areas.

HEALTH RULES: All animals entered in the AGS National Shows and the Nigerian Dwarf Specialty Show must be accompanied by an official Certificate of Veterinary Inspection, signed by an accredited veterinarian, issued within 30 days of date of show. The certificate must list individual identification, a description of each animal, age, breed, and sex. In all cases the Certificate of Veterinary Inspection will state that the animals are healthy, free of symptoms or evidence of infectious or transmissible disease such as, but not limited to: internal and/or external parasites, RINGWORM LESIONS, PINKEYE, OR ABCESSES IN ANY STAGE (including clincal symptoms of Caseous Lymphadenitis). All goats must be identified by registration numbers & tattoos or microchips as indicated on the registration certificates. In addition, all goats must be free of scabies, lice, foot-rot, sore mouth, and have not been exposed to scrapie. In addition to the health certificate requirements as stated above, all out of State herds must meet the Commonwealth of Virginia Importation Health Requirements for Tuberculosis and Brucellosis. Specifically, goats entering the Commonwealth of Virginia must originate directly from a herd in which all animals tested negative to a test for tuberculosis and brucellosis approved by the State Veternarian within 12 months prior to entry or have been individually tested and found to be negative to a test for tuberculosis and brucellosis approved by the State Veternarian within 30 days prior to entry. Any animals appearing in poor health or displaying open abscesses or obvious signs of soremouth or pinkeye may not be shown. The show committee shall have the authority to request the removal of such an animal.

PROGRAMS: One Show Program will be available upon check in. Additional programs are available at a cost of $5.00 each and may be purchased in advance or at the show. Please enter amount needed on entry form and include amount due with check.

The host hotel is the Ramada Inn of Harrisonburg. Group room rates have been arranged for $57 per night (plus applicable taxes) for two double beds (no extra charge per person). Reservations are required in advance. For reservations contact the Ramada Inn at (800) 868-4466 or (540) 434-9981. Be sure to mention AGS or American Goat Society to receive this special rate. Camping is permitted on the fairgrounds for $15 per night. There are limited electrical (20 amp) and water hook ups and NO sewer hook ups. There is a dump station on the fairgrounds. PRIVATE TREATY SALES: The American Goat Society and the National Show Committee accepts no responsibility for any private treaty sales. All sales activities are to be private transactions between the seller and buyer. NOTE: All animals, whether for show or for private treaty sales must be on the official health certificates to enter the barn.

JUDGES TRAINING SEMINAR:

The Judges Training seminar will be held June 20th & 21st (Wednesday & Thursday)
Training Fees are: Candidates $100, Auditors $50, Classroom only audits $35.
Two day training seminar will encompass:
a. Instruction in show rules, major faults, breed standards, ethical behavior of judges, dairy goat anatomy, comparative terms for reasons, importance of accurate reasons, giving accurate reasons, dairy goat structure and conformation, the Report of Award
b. A written exam requiring a passing grade of at least 75% on each of five sections: labeling a dairy goat picture with names of body parts, identifying the seriousness of faults, true and false and fill in the blank questions concerning conformation according to AGS standards, reasons, rules, etiquette, ethics, show rules, and special aspects of judging, breed standards & score card, the Report of Award
c. An oral examination with at least 75% accuracy on each of two sections: placing at least eight classes, preferably representing all breeds, at least four of which will be in milk. A minimum of 4 breeds is required. If breed availability is limited, classes of 3 individual breeds and an AOP class containing another breed will suffice. Classes are made up of 4 animals each. 4 must be milking classes and the other 4 may be represented by junior does and/or bucks if needed. Giving accurate, appropriate reasons, and presentation on at least two of the classes.

VET SERVICES: Information will be posted in the barn for area vets should you need one. All vet charges must be negotiated between the vet and the exhibitor.
MISC: No open flame of any sort is permitted within any building. All exits shall remain free and clear at all times. Please keep the grounds and buildings clean.
